Thomas G. O’Brien (“Tom”) passed away in Houston, Texas on Thursday, June 4, 2015, at the age of 60. A resident of New Orleans, Tom was born in Kingston, Pennsylvania and grew up in Towson, Maryland. At the age of 17, Tom, along with his parents and his brother, relocated to Metairie, Louisiana. After graduating from Archbishop Rummel High School in 1972, Tom attended Tulane University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1976. Tom went on to receive a Juris Doctor from Tulane University Law School in 1979. Tom joined Adams and Reese LLP as an Associate in 1979, and became a partner shortly thereafter. Tom quickly developed into a highly skilled litigator and trusted advisor to his many clients. Throughout his 35-year career with Adams and Reese, Tom held virtually every elected, appointed and volunteer position in the firm. He was a Litigation Practice Group Leader for many years, and he served on every firm Strategic Planning Committee since 1994. As Chairman of the Firm’s Growth Committee, Tom played a key role in the expansion of the firm to its current regional footprint of 16 offices in 7 states throughout the South, and in Washington, D.C. At the time of his death, Tom was serving his third term on the firm’s Executive Committee. Tom leaves his beloved wife, Teri Dupuy O’Brien; his son, Timothy Patrick O’Brien; his daughter, Kristin O’Brien Yoder, and her husband, Alex; his father, Thomas Bernard O’Brien; his brother, Robert Glenn O’Brien, and his wife, Joan; his stepson, Blair Dupuy; his stepdaughter, Devan Gordon; and his friend and mother of his children, Carol D. O’Brien. Tom was predeceased by his mother Hope Riley O’Brien. Funeral services will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, New Orleans, Louisiana on Saturday, June 13, 2015.
