Thomas S. Allen , age 96, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 5th. Tommy, as he was affectionately known, was a life long member of Holy Name of Jesus Church and attended adoration there until he was no longer able to drive. Tommy served in the Army from 1946 to 1948 and received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan). He was a 1952 graduate of Tulane University with a degree in Chemical Engineering, and worked at Ethyl Corporation from 1952 until his retirement in 1992. As a member of Southern Yacht Club, from 1948 to 2024, he was well known all his life for his love of sailing and Old Fashioned cocktails. He fascinated family and friends with stories of his life adventures, his travels, and family history, until the day he died. He also had a special devotion to St. Anthony for his entire life. He will always be known for his generosity towards his family and those in need.
Tommy is preceded in death by his parents, Ethan Allen and Lydia Koerner Allen, sisters Barbara Allen Call (Joe) and Linda Allen Lanaux (Louis Jr.).
He is survived by nieces and nephews JoAnn Johnson (Greg), Lucinda Lanaux Guillot (Ward), Louis A. Lanaux III (Goldie), Jean Paul Lanaux (Deborah), Lisette M. Lanaux Stanley (Wade), Jay Call (Estelle), Ethan Call (Anne), Stephanie Call Childrey (Frank), Tommy Call, Barbara Call Whitney, Nan Call Wilson (Mo), Billy Call (Linda), Patricia Call Golden, Linda Call Trumble (Don), Lydia Call, many great nephews and nieces, and special care provider Dominic Pevan.
Services will be held at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 6367 St. Charles Ave. on Monday March 11, 2024 with visitation at 10am and mass at 11:00. Burial will be at St.Louis Cemetery No. 3 following mass and a farewell drive by the Southern Yacht Club.
