Thomas L. Alfano Sr.

Thomas (Tommy) Lawrence Alfano, Sr., age 97, passed away, after an extended illness, Monday, February 12, 2018 in Highland Hospital in Picayune. Tommy was born in Hearne, TX in 1920 to Adelene & Lawrence Alfano, graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1938, and attended Texas A&M and Tulane University. He married Maxine Fedoroff Alfano on 11/3/1940 in New Orleans, they had 3 children together, and they celebrated their 76th year of marriage this past November. Tommy was an Eagle Scout and a Sea Scout, and served in the US Army Air Corps from May, 1943 to November, 1945, having been commissioned as a bombardier and becoming a qualified carbine marksman in December, 1943. He remained in the Air Force Reserves for many years, and retired as a Major in 1970. Upon discharge from the Army Air Corps in 1945, Tommy joined his Uncle Phil Musso in his bakery business, but eventually became a watchmaker and jeweler and had his own jewelry business in several of the Schwegmann’s Supermarkets for many years. He served as President of the Veterans' Watchmaking Association, worked at Wilson's Jewelry, had independent stores, and then located his business, Al’s Watch Repair, in DH Holmes. He repaired watches for Aucoin Hart Jewelers and Adler's Jewelers until he retired in his late 60’s and moved from New Orleans to Carriere, MS. Tommy was an active member of Masonic Lodge 102 and served as Grand Master of both the New York and Scottish Rite Temples. He was also an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating. He had a love for travel, and wrote an account of his family’s trip to Alaska in 1952. He also enjoyed completing newspaper crossword puzzles and eating seafood.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Thomas Alfano and Adelene Corte Alfano; brother, Frank Philip Alfano; son, Frank Thomas Alfano, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Elsa Cooper Alfano; brother-in-law Peter Fedoroff, Jr.; sister-in-law, Gloria Alfano; niece, Bronwyn Alfano; nephew, Peter Fedoroff, III; and nephew-in-law, Douglas Carlos. He is survived by his beloved wife, Maxine May Fedoroff Alfano; children Adelene Ann Alfano and Thomas Lawrence Alfano, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Lucille Gasecki; nieces, Dianne Fedoroff Carlos and Darnay Alfano Kastl; grandchildren, Bridget Cabibi-Wilkin (Daryn Wilkin), Andrew Alfano, Sr., Mary Jones (David), Chanell Alfano Costa (Garrin, Sr.), Frank Alfano, Jr., Laurie Alfano Kramer, and Lawrence Alfano (Kemma), and others; great-grandchildren Matthew, Alitza, Zak, Isaac, Tivon, and Ezra Cabibi-Wilkin, Emily, Andrew, Jr., and Mickey Alfano, Callan Costa Smith (E.J.), Erin Costa Whitney (Joseph), Luke (Ruby), Garrin Jr., Michael, Spencer, Timothy, Ethan, Joshua, Daniel, and Caleb Costa, and Brannan, Ian and Aeden Kramer; great-great-grandchildren Emery and Eden Whitney, and many nieces, nephews and their families. He leaves behind a beautiful legacy and a very large family, all of whom were very important to him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services with visitation and a funeral mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA on Friday, February 16, 2018. Visitation will be begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by a funeral mass at 3:00 p.m.

Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
