Stephen James “Chip” Ledet was born December 27, 1957 in Baton Rouge, LA. He grew up in Opelousas, LA attending grammar school and then attending and graduating high school at Saint Stanislaus Boys School, in Bay Saint Louis, MS. Steve was an avid golfer from a young age, having played often with his father and grandfather. He was honored to have been on his school’s golf team. His love for golf would continue throughout his life.
Steve proudly attended and graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. He was an active member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, obtained his undergraduate degree in 1980 and graduated from LSU Law School in 1983. Upon receiving his juris doctorate, Steve practiced law in Opelousas with his father Stephen Joseph Ledet, Jr. His father’s passing in 1985, led Steve on another journey back to LSU. This time, receiving a master’s in business administration degree. For someone who professed not to like school, he garnered plenty of initials behind his name. His love of Tiger Football and all Tiger sports was one of his greatest pastimes.
Steve then practiced law for the State Attorney General’s office as the legal counsel for the LA State Lottery Commission. His family ties then took him to Alexandria, LA where he made many new friends, continued his golf game and worked for the Rapides Parish Library system. A final move took him to Metairie, LA where he would spend his last years with his partner, Patricia Anseman Stakenborghs, enjoying retirement and spending time with friends and family.
Those who knew Steve, knew of his passion, enthusiasm, and opinions for many pursuits. In addition to golf, and Tiger Sports, he developed a love of baseball and eagerly anticipated the beginning of his yearly fantasy baseball league. Steve was a connoisseur of old movies and music, spanning many decades. He was also a voracious reader, which helped him master the art of the trivia game, much to the chagrin of his opponents. Steve’s sense of humor, true wit and love of conversation will be cherished and remembered for years to come. His family will be forever grateful for being able to share in, and benefit from, his wisdom, enthusiasm, and love for his family.
Steve passed away Monday, November 7, 2022, at his home in Metairie, LA. He is survived by his partner Patricia Anseman Stakenborghs, his mother Carolyn Foshee Ledet, his sisters: Lisa Ledet (Jeff Flint), Laura Ledet (John Rutter) and Lesley Ledet Moran (Edan Moran); his nieces and nephew: Cleo Ledet (David Roncskevitz), Riley Starrs, Aliceanna Starrs, Lindsay Moran, and Lacey Moran; and Pat’s children Bobby Stakenborghs (Corrie), Lauren Wood (Jason), and Ryan Stakenborghs (Cassidy).
