Sheryl Smith McClendon

Sheryl Smith McClendon, of Metairie, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2022. She was age 68. Sheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond J. Smith, Sr. and Doris Lotz Smith Staples; her beloved son, Jordan R. Smith; and her niece, Allison M. Smith.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph P. McClendon; brother, Raymond J. Smith, Jr. (Lynette); sisters, Jan M. Smith and Kerrie S. Barnard; daughter-in-law, Kelsey M. Smith; nieces and nephews, Raymond J. Smith, III (Melissa), Dylan P. Barnard (Melissa), Jamie L. Smith, Madison B. Huffman (Taylor), Kaylin R. Smith, Julia G. Barnard, Delaney L. Barnard, and Camden J. Barnard. She is also survived by many other relatives and dear friends.

Sheryl was born in Corpus Christi, Texas and raised in New Orleans. She was a graduate of St. James Major High School, class of 1971, and attended University of Louisiana at Lafayette (formerly USL). For over 35 years, she worked with Tulane University Parking Services, retiring in 2019. She was a member of the Associates of the Sisters of the Living Word (ASLW).

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of the Heart of Hospice for their care and compassion.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 12:00PM. The visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:00AM. The interment will follow the Mass at All Saints Mausoleum (in Metairie Cemetery).
