Sara Louise McLellan Jumonville passed away Monday, October 29, after a wonderful 99 years of life. She has been the longtime matriarch of an adoring family who lived her whole life in the Uptown neighborhood of New Orleans. She moved to Lambeth house in 1998 and for the past several years, she resided at St. Anna’s at Lambeth House where she had a wide circle of friends and caregivers.
Sara Louise was an avid bridge player, golfer, hostess, and supporter of many charities. She was particularly dedicated to the Lighthouse for the Blind where she volunteered for many years transcribing news and books into Braille. She also loved spending time with all her family at their summer home, Haphazard, in Slidell.
Sara Louise is survived by son, J. Robert Jumonville, Sr. (Stephanie) and daughter Sara Louise Jumonville Bugbee. Grandchildren: Henry J. Jumonville, IV; Jean-Paul Jumonville (Christine); Jacques M. Jumonville; J. Robert Jumonville, Jr. (Fay); Cooper H. Jumonville (Jennifer); Katherine Louise Bugbee Heubert (Terrence); Elizabeth Anne Bugbee; F. Loring Bugbee, III (Merideth). Great grandchildren: Josephine and David Jumonville, Robert Jumonville, Lukus Heubert, and, Emery and Reed Bugbee. Sisters-in-law Helen McLellan, Marie McLellan and many nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by her family.
Sara Louise is preceded in death by parents Charles and Ernestine McLellan; husband Henry J. Jumonville, Jr; son Henry J. Jumonville, III; daughter-in-law Gerri Jumonville; brothers William McLellan (Betsy); Leigh McLellan (Mary); Edward McLellan (Mary); Donald McLellan; and John McLellan.
Sara Louise was a graduate of the Louise S. Maghee School and Holton-Arms College (Washington, DC). During her debut she was in the courts of several carnival organizations and was queen of Twelfth Night Revelers. She was a member of the Junior League of New Orleans, Orleans Club, Le Petit Salon, Colonial Dames and served on the boards of the Herman-Grimma House and New Orleans Country Club.
Family and friends are invited to attend the memorial service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 11:00am with visitation beginning at 10:00am. There will be a small reception at Lambeth House at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to Lighthouse for the Blind.
