Sam was born in Belmar, NJ to Sam Kleva and Margaret Irene Kleva on May 23, 1926.
Sam loved sports – ALL sports! He regularly watched multiple games on two different TVs while listening to a transistor radio, switching between several other games. He played basketball in high school where he earned the nickname “Snappy”. He also had a passion for his yard and enjoyed memberships in the American Legion, Lions Club, Elks Club and Country Club Homes where he was president for two years. He also served as president of the Auditors Association of Greater New Orleans. After graduating from Asbury Park High School in New Jersey, Sam enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces where he was a B-17 tail gunner for three years during World War II. He ended his military career at Barksdale AFB in Bossier City, LA and began his professional career as an auditor in the insurance industry. He worked as an auditor for Continental Insurance for his entire career!
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ann Snider Kleva, son Joseph Mark Kleva, his parents and siblings. He is survived by his children, Linda Kleva Wright (Sammy), Jerry Kleva (Debbie), Vickie Masucci (Ray), grandchildren Brooke Zacheis (Carey), Anthony Felix (MJ), Natasha Kleva, Mary Kleva and great grandchildren Nicholas Zacheis and Hannah Zacheis.
Per Sam’s wishes a small private ceremony was held on February 12, 2019.
