Sam is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Ann Reon Taylor who he met on the dog food aisle of A&P. where he worked until retirement. Ann and Sam had four children, Sam E. Taylor, Jr. (Tonia), Yves B. Lopez, Nicole L. Goodwin (Greg), and Aimee L. Garza; two sisters, Alice T. Corkern (the late Troy) and Shirley T. Primes (the late Donald); two brothers, Tasso “T.J.” Taylor and James Taylor (Darlene); grandchildren, Samantha T. Burlett (Brent), Brittany B. Casey (Daniel), Blaine “Turtle” Gardner, Jordan M. Rider (Jade), Tabitha L. Taylor, Caleb E. Garza, Elijah P. Garza, and Sevy Z. Lopez; a bonus grandson, Jacob Goodwin; honorary grandchildren, Vincent Arnona (Kiersten) and Victoria “Tori” Arnona; great-grandchildren, Bret D. Rivers, Benjamin W. Casey, Charlotte L. Casey, Layne Kate Rider, Leland D. Rider, Brentley C. Burlett, and Kylynn R. Burlett; bonus great-grandchildren, Lexie Dunham and Lindley Burlett; and his loving, special relationship with Lihui “Lizha” Zhang and the Dale children, Stephen, Paul, and Grace Dale.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tasso Taylor, Sr. and Mary Anthony Taylor; sister, Edna Gayle Oswald (Bruce); grandchildren, Ty-Luis Garza, Joshua Shane Farmer, and Madison Leigh Goodwin; and great-grandchild, Kasen Scott Fitzmorris.
Sam was a longtime outdoorsman. He was a member of the board of directors of the Piney Ford Hunting Club in Mississippi. He was affectionately known as “The Colonel.”
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at First United Methodist Church, 203 N. Jefferson Ave. in Covington, on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 11:00AM. A visitation will be held at the church beginning at 9:00AM. Interment will follow at Eternal Rest Cemetery.
