Sam Lawrence Briuglio, Sr., passed away peacefully on June 9, 2023, at his home in Metairie, LA at the age of 82. A native of New Orleans and long-time resident of Jefferson Parish, he is survived by his wife of sixty years, Karen, daughters Michelle (Jim), and Ann Marie (Billy), son Sam (Alison), and five grandchildren Henry, Emma, Madeline (Kim), Maia and Piper.
Sam attended Saint Aloysius High School and graduated from Loyola University, where he was a champion athlete in both basketball and track. He went on to start and run his own construction business for twenty-five years, then worked as a regional representative for a national concrete company from which he retired in 2021. A man of great faith, Sam was devoted to the Catholic Church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister for both St. Angela Merici and St. Francis Xavier parishes. He put family, friends, and community above anything else and was a cornerstone of peace, calm and strength to all those who knew him. Sam knew nothing but living through truth, was always there to help those who needed him, and warmed the world around him with his smile.
Sam loved building things and showed this through the homes he built, the family he supported and loved, and the community of friends that made his life so blessed. In the end, he left our world the way he lived in it, shrouded in peace, and surrounded and supported by all those who knew and loved him. He has been reunited with his brother Joe, Mother and Father, and his son, Michael.
Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Monday, June 19, 2023, at 10:30am followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:30 at St. Angela Merici Church, 835 Melody Drive in Metairie. Interment to follow in Metairie Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Boys Town Louisiana or Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
