Sam William Ascani passed away on November 27, 2024 at the age of 94. He was born in New Orleans on February 28, 1930. He served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from January of 1949 to August of 1951.
After earning his B.B.A. from Loyola University in 1956, he went on to a career in accounting. He worked for Chrysler and eventually joined the staff of Lockheed Martin.
Sam was a very athletic person. He was a member of Warren Easton High School’s basketball team. While in college, he began earning a name for himself as a skilled track star- a hobby he kept up with throughout his whole life. He was entered into Loyola’s Hall of Fame in 2004. Even into his 90s, he maintained a faithful workout regimen and continued to run.
Those who knew Sam would tell you that he is a man of faith. He was a devout Roman Catholic and had been a parishioner of St. Peter Catholic Church in Covington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Enrico Ascani, Sr. and Sarah Saia Ascani; sister, Marie Ascani McCrocklin (Warren); brothers, Henry Ascani, Jr., and Joseph Ascani (Georgette); and nephew, Richard McCrocklin.
Sam is survived by his sister-in-law, Lorraine Ascani; and his beloved nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at 11 AM. Visitation will begin at 10 AM. After the Mass, Sam will be laid to rest in Lake Lawn Park.
