Ruth Braswell Hingle, age 89, died on Friday, September 3, 2021 at Park Provence Senior Assisted Living Facility and Memory Care in Slidell, Louisiana. She was the beloved wife of the late Calvin Joseph Hingle, Sr., mother of Linda Hingle (Lyons) Donahue and the late Calvin Joseph Hingle, Jr., and mother-in-law of Patrick M. Donahue, Sr.
“Nana” was the beloved Grandmother of the late Jonathan Michael Lyons, Patrick Michael Donahue, Jr., the late Michael Patrick Donahue, and Joseph Michael Donahue. She was also Great Grandmother of Gavin Michael Lyons and truly loved his little sister, Avery Elizabeth Cerise.
Ruth was born in Campbell, AL as the fourth of nine children born to the late Bazzie Seals Braswell and Jeff Manning Braswell. The family later moved to Laurel, MS where she graduated from Calhoun High School and attended Charity Hospital School of Nursing in Laurel, MS. She met Calvin in New Orleans when attending a clinical rotation and it was “Love at First Sight”.
Ruth was preceded in death by her siblings Beatrice Presley, Muriel Nowell, Frank Braswell, Bernard Braswell, Jesse Braswell, and Jeff Braswell, Jr. She is survived by her two youngest brothers, Bobbye Glenn Braswell of Laurel, MS and Charles David Braswell of Columbia, SC, and numerous nieces and nephews and their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Ruth was born in Campbell, AL to the late Jeff Manning Braswell and Bazzie Seals Braswell. She was nicknamed “Baby Girl” and her family later moved to Laurel, MS where she graduated from Calhoun High School. Then, Ruth attended South Mississippi Charity School of Nursing in Laurel, Mississippi. She later moved to New Orleans to attend Charity Hospital School of Nursing in 1951 for a clinical rotation. It was there that she met “Calvin” who became the “Love of her life!”
Ruth and Calvin married and built a home in Gentilly where they were active members of St. Raphael Catholic Church in New Orleans. In 1971, they moved to New Orleans East, Ruth became one of the first Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers, and Calvin was an Usher. They both received the Saint Louis Medallion for St. Maria Goretti Parish in 2002, for their generosity and service. In addition, they were able to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Monsignor Earl Gauthreaux was a “Dear Family Friend” and joined us for many family dinners, holidays, and vacations throughout the years. He is sadly missed by the entire Hingle Family.
Family and Friends are invited to attend the Visitation and Funeral Mass, which will be “A Celebration of Ruth’s Life on the 90th Anniversary of her Birth!”
Visitation will be at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA on Saturday, September 25, 2021 between the hours of 10:00 A.M. and 11:00 A.M. followed by a Catholic Funeral Mass, which will be celebrated by the Very Reverend Wayne C. Payssee.W.F., in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie at 11:00 Interment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum.
