Rosemae Malone Daigle passed away on April 8, 2024, at the age of 94, concluding a life devoted to caring for those dear to her through delicious home-cooked meals, invaluable counsel, and, above all, boundless love.
Rose was born and raised in the Carrollton area of New Orleans, where she spent her childhood exploring the streets with her two brothers and sister, under the watchful gaze of Mater Dolorosa Church. Her grandchildren fondly recall the tales “Granny” told of her upbringing, living above her father's grocery store on the corner of Plum and Eagle St., and encountering her beloved Raymond for the first time. Their union was one of devotion, loyalty, and adoration. Marrying in 1952, their 59-year partnership led them through many adventures – from owning a motel and several bars to engaging in numerous real estate ventures. However, their proudest achievement, as they often declared, was nurturing their children, Rochelle and Rocky. Rose loved her children like only an Italian mother could – and she let them know every single day, with both words and actions.
While her primary role was that of a mother, Rose embraced a multitude of roles with equal fervor. Upon relocating to River Ridge in 1971, she became an original member of the River Ridge Homemakers Club and the River Ridge Garden Club. When her son’s Cub Scout Troop needed a den mother, she stepped up to become, by all accounts, "the best Cub Scout den leader in the city." Whatever endeavor she pursued, Rose excelled. Her delicious recipes will continue to impress for generations to come, while her artwork and handmade quilts will be cherished by her family for many years. And her family will continue to recite the rosary with the same devotion she instilled in them.
After meeting the challenge of raising her children and doting on her grandchildren, Rose transitioned to the next chapter of her life – caring for her beloved husband, Raymond, and pursuing her passion for travel and beautiful music. She devotedly tended to Raymond until his passing in 2011, cherishing his memory until her final days. A lover of all things Italian and an ardent admirer of Andrea Bocelli, Rose took Italian lessons well into her seventies, viewing it as both a challenge and a means to forge connections during her travels. Accompanied by her cherished best friend and daughter Rochelle, she journeyed across the globe to attend Bocelli performances, even in her eighties. Their annual trip to the singer's hometown in Tuscany held a special place in her heart, where they forged enduring memories and friendships, including with the Bocelli extended family.
We will dearly miss her love, her strength, her smile, and her timeless wisdom. But we find solace in the knowledge that she is reunited with her soulmate, Raymond.
Born on March 9, 1930, Rosemae Malone Daigle was the third of four children born to John B. Malone, Sr., and Rita Pizzo Malone. On March 16, 1952, she married Raymond "Rock" Daigle, Sr. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two siblings, Salvadore J. Malone and John B. Malone, Jr. (Janice). She is survived by her beloved children Rochelle Marie Daigle and Raymond A. "Rocky" Daigle, Jr., her daughter-in-law Shannon Fitzmorris Daigle, her cherished grandchildren Morgan Daigle Aucoin (Talbot), Raymond A. “Alex” Daigle, and William N. Daigle, and her devoted sister, Marilyn G. Malone.
