Rosalie C. Woods

Rosalie Cardinale Woods born in Donaldsonville, LA on December 24, 1930 passed away on Monday, July 5, 2021 at the age of 90. She was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother. She and her husband were members of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Metairie and later members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Zachary.

Rosalie married Leonard Woods, the love of her life, on February 11, 1950. For 24 years they traveled the United States from Rhode Island to California as Leonard pursed his career as a U.S. Naval Officer. Rosalie and Leonard settled in Metairie, Louisiana in 1968 and spent many joyous years surrounded by their children, extended family, and friends. After retirement in 1986 Rosalie and Leonard bought a motorhome and, again, traveled across America, including a trip to Alaska in 1992. Following hurricane Katrina, they relocated to Zachary, Louisiana to be closer to family. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Rosalie knew that she found immense joy and pride in her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. She was a source of comfort, strength, wisdom and encouragement for her entire family. She was an extraordinary mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; and a devoted and loving wife to Leonard for 61 years. Leonard and Rosalie lived a life full of faith, love, joy and family. She will be joyfully remembered and greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Weldon Woods Sr.; parents, Carlo S. Cardinale and Marie Musco Cardinale; one daughter, Kathleen L. Woods; one sister, Marie Cardinale Kaup; one brother, Salvador J. Cardinale.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Woods Maret (Gerald); son, Leonard Weldon Woods Jr. (Margaret); sister, Margaret J. Dearth; grandchild, Jessica Caperton (Kent), Laura Woods, Daniel Woods (Krista), Jonathan Maret (Liyah), Katherine Haynes (Caleb); great grandchildren, Julianne Caperton, and Genevieve Woods.

Services will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021 at St Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 6425 West Metairie Ave, Metairie, LA 70003. Visitation will begin at 11:00AM followed by a Mass at 1:00PM.
