Robert Ray “Bob” Wooderson

Robert Ray “Bob” Wooderson passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at the age of 88. He graduated from Southwestern Louisiana Institute with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering in 1957 and earned Master credentials from Tulane University. Bob served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves after completing Basic Training at Paris Island.

In 1960 Bob married the love of his life Suzanne Stuart Thomas. Bob worked as an Executive and Engineer in the Oil & Gas - Drilling and Production Industry during a career that spanned over 50 years. He was an active and faithful member of John Calvin Presbyterian Church, where he was ordained a Ruling Elder in 1976. Bob was an Eagle Scout, a LA Registered Professional Engineer, and was a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Chateau Golf and Country Club, and the American Contract Bridge League. In his free time, Bob was an avid reader and golfer, a globetrotting Oil & Gas instructor, a devoted Saints fan, and a life master bridge player. Bob loved his family and was proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He cherished and enjoyed watching their individual growth and successes in life.

Above all, Bob was a loving husband who was steadfastly dedicated to his family. He had a tireless work ethic, a competitive spirit, and a drive to win. Bob will be missed, held close and celebrated by all who knew him during his incredible life’s journey.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Suzanne Thomas Wooderson; his children, Rob and Cindy Schule Wooderson, Tom Wooderson and Belinda Flowers; his grandchildren, Robbie and Laura Wooderson, Ashley and Jonah Keller, Kyle and Alyson Wooderson, and Bryce Wooderson; his great grandchildren, Robert James, Eva Rose, Thomas William, and Charles Oliver Wooderson, Henry Robert Keller, and Amelia Ann Wooderson; his brother, Michael James Wooderson, his nephew Robert Clyde Wooderson, his niece Jennifer Kate Wooderson Janssen, and a host of family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, the late Robert Clyde Wooderson and Virginia Ashley Wooderson, and his sister-in-law Charlotte Loving Wooderson.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Services and Christian Burial on Friday, December 15th, 2023, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, New Orleans, LA 70124. Visitation will begin at 8:30 am, followed by Services at 10:00 am. Interment will take place at Lake Lawn Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in his memory to John Calvin Presbyterian Church (4201 Transcontinental Drive, Metairie, LA 70006) or to a charity of your choosing.
