Robert Lee Pierpoint Jr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by his immediate family on Sunday, August 25th at the age of 79 years. Beloved husband of Phyllis Cassagne Pierpoint. Cherished father of Nicole C. Pierpoint-Bruening and husband, Jason R. Bruening. Adored grandfather of Cass Pierpoint Bruening. Treasured son of the late Robert L. Pierpoint Sr. and Celena Rolland Pierpoint and brother-in-law to the late Stephanie Cassagne Grimm. He also leaves behind several cousins and a special group of “chosen family,” consisting of loyal and supportive friends, nieces, and nephews who made his life fulfilling and will miss him dearly.
Bob(by) was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Kenner for the past 50 years but grew up spending many cherished summers on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. In his later years, he valued his time spent in Diamondhead, MS with family and friends going to dinner, smoking cigars, drinking great wine, cooking, playing golf, watching the birds, listening to music with his son-in-law and grandson, and enjoying the serenity.
Bob was a proud graduate of Alcee Fortier High School in Uptown New Orleans where he played varsity football, basketball and baseball. He continued on to achieve his Bachelor’s degree from Southeastern Louisiana University where he was a member of the KDT/PKT fraternity and played semi-pro football. Bob spent the majority of his esteemed 45-year career in the wholesale tobacco, grocery, and convenience industry, where he was Chief Operating Officer of Imperial Trading Company and Vice Chairman of Georges Enterprises until his retirement. He also spent much of his career volunteering his time serving in leadership roles on various boards, organizations, and committees such as The Southern Wholesalers Association, Louisiana Association of Wholesalers, Young President’s Organization of Louisiana, and Mount Carmel Academy. Throughout his career, Bob was recognized with several awards and achievements too lengthy to name. One of his most prized awards was being named “Tobacco Man of the Year,” which meant so much to him as the tobacco industry brought him lifelong friendships. Bob had a profound love for Mardi Gras and spent many years in the Krewe of Babylon and the Krewe of Caesar. He was a long standing member of Chateau Golf and Country Club where he spent many weekends on the golf course, his favorite place. Bob was a man of great faith, and a loyal parishioner of St. Philip Neri Parish, where he found joy in teaching RCIA for many years. He was also the proud owner of Don Juan Cigar Company of Metairie, where he was affectionately known as the “Original Don.” There, he spent many days surrounded by laughter, good cigars, and friends.
Bob’s personality was larger than life and his laughter was able to fill a room. He always had the best stories, never met a stranger, and his presence brightened the lives of everyone he encountered. Bob was also known for his incredible generosity and would be the first person to give anyone in need the shirt off his back. He was frequently turned to by many for sound guidance, direction, and advice. More than anything else in life, he was a fierce protector and provider who cherished his family and adored his wife of 54 years, Phyllis. His daughter Nicole was the shining light of his life. Many of his last years were spent taking vacations and making unforgettable memories with his family, especially with his grandson Cass and son-in-law Jason whom he adored. Bob will be profoundly missed, yet always carry on in our hearts.
The family would like to provide an extra note of thanks to Dr. Curtis Prowell, Tania Loumiet, and The Carpenter House of St. Joseph for the guidance, kindness, generosity, and love shared in his final days. All services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, masses or donations to the Louisiana Chapter of the Alzheimer Association are welcomed. Any other special requests can be directed to Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home for additional information.
