He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 63 years, Sylvia F. Maher; his two daughters, Karen Benrud (Burton) and Colleen Cole; five grandchildren, Chris Benrud, Michelle Benrud Suter, Katie Benrud Hunter, Shelby Cole and Beau Cole; three great-grandchildren, Miles Robert Suter, Desmond Christopher Benrud and James Robert Benrud.
Bob was born in Houston, Texas on August 23, 1932 to the late Alvin Michael Maher, Sr. and Lucille Guillaume Maher. He proudly served his country as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy for 3 years, obtained his business degree from Tulane University and his MBA from the University of New Orleans.
Bob was the co-owner and instrumental in the operation of his family’s business Café du Monde for 40 years. He was an honorary lifetime member of the Southern Yacht Club for 26 years and editor of their magazine Tell Tale. He was a great man of faith and a devout parishioner of St. Angela Merici Church. He was a freelance photographer and sailor most of his life. He was beloved by all his family and friends. He was a kind and generous man.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass celebrated in the Chapel at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA, 70124, on Friday, September 14, 2018. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at All Saints Mausoleum.
