Robert David Cummiskey, Jr.

Robert David Cummiskey, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at the age of 81. He was born at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans to the late Robert D. Cummiskey, Sr. and Edmeé Pitre Cummiskey. Robert grew up in Gentilly Terrace on Marigny Street and attended Cor Jesu (class of ’59). He graduated from LSUNO in 1964 with a business degree and was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity, where he was the president for one year. While in college, he met his wife, Cheryl Ann Abadie Cummiskey on a blind date and proposed to her on Valentine’s Day in 1963. They were married on October 10, 1964 and later had two sons, Dr. Robert David Cummiskey, III and Gavin Patrick Cummiskey. Robert was a devoted Cor Jesu/ Brother Martin alumnus. He enjoyed gun collecting and hunting. He was also an avid gardener with a love for birds and wildlife. He worked with CNA, Johnson and Higgins and later with Petroleum Helicopters International until his retirement in 2013.

Robert is survived by: his loving sons, Dr. Robert David Cummiskey, III (Danielle Barry-Cummiskey) and Gavin Patrick Cummiskey (Sonya Asaro Cummiskey); his adoring grandchildren, Hailey Cummiskey, Chase Cummiskey, Gabrielle Cummiskey, Kaelyn Cummiskey, and Liam Cummiskey; and his siblings, David Paul Cummiskey and Ann Cummiskey LaTulippe.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 58 years, Cheryl Ann Abadie Cummiskey; his parents, Robert D. Cummiskey, Sr. and Edmeé Pitre Cummiskey.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation and mass held at St. Ann Church and Shrine, 3601 Transcontinental Drive, Metairie, LA 70006 on Tuesday, February 7, 2023. Visitation will begin at church from 10:00 a.m. until mass begins at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park at 5454 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Brother Martin High School or The American Cancer Society in his name.
