On Tuesday, March 1, 2022, Richard “Richie” Roper, II passed away while surrounded by friends and family. Richie was born on February 18, 1975. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, as well as his maternal and paternal uncles.
He will be sorely missed, and is survived by his mother, Grace Leinhardt Roper; his father, Richard Roper, Sr.; his step mother, Kathy Roper; his sister, Robin Roper Verret; his brother-in-law, Jon Verret; his step sister, Aislinn; his step brother, Rickie; their spouses, and all five of his nieces and his nephew, Hope Galloway, Madelynn Roper, Kinkaid Hinyup, Vivienne Hinyup, Ann Cardon Pares, and Ashby Lynn Pares. He is also survived by his many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Richie was the kind of person who upon seeing this, would cringe, his humble nature forcing him to object.
Richie graduated from Belle Chasse High School in 1994. He continued his education, and graduated from William Carey School of Nursing with honors. He was a registered nurse by profession, and in that time worked in trauma recovery, dialysis, hospice, and administration.
He enjoyed his work helping the sick, and always found a way to give back. His pastimes included teaching his nieces, Hope and Maddie, street navigation in the city, and going to Mardi Gras parades. He loved Mardi Gras and rode in several parades for the last 30 years. His kindness and straightforward nature helped us all.
We love you Rich, rest easy.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Heart of Hospice for their care and compassion.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Richie's Life service on Sunday, April 3, 2022 from 1:00PM until 4:00PM at Sun Ray Grill, 2600 Belle Chasse Hwy. in Gretna, Louisiana, 70056.
A private interment will be held at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
