Regardless of what you called her, you loved her. And somehow, she loved you more.
Remona Maser Mumford gained her angel wings Wednesday, April 12, 2023. A longtime resident of Metairie, LA, she died peacefully at her home in Baton Rouge. She was 88 years old.
Born November 3, 1934, Remona devoted her life to serving others. She spent many years volunteering at East Jefferson General Hospital. One of her favorite pastimes was rocking newborn babies in the maternity ward. Proudly devoted to her Catholic faith, she was a longtime parishioner at St. Louis King of France Church in Metairie and served as the secretary of the ladies auxiliary for the Knights of Columbus.
She had no greater love, however, than her devotion to family. As a wife, mother of four, grandmother of six and great-grandmother of 16, nothing filled Remona with more joy than spending time with her family -- and cooking for them! Her crawfish bisque was a treat reserved for Father’s Day and her husband Bill’s birthday. “Grammy Meatballs” were a Christmas Eve staple. Her recipes were so legendary that several years ago, her daughters compiled a cookbook filled with them that were gifted to the family so future generations could enjoy them.
Remona enjoyed playing Pokeno with friends, pulling the penny slots at casinos and traveling the world with Bill.
A true servant of God, Remona was quick to offer an attentive ear to listen, a wise word of advice and a loving shoulder to cry on.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years William “Bill” Mumford; children Kenny Mumford (Nancy), Karen Daigle (Harold), Darlene Moscona (Jodi); grandchildren Stephen Mumford, Brian Moscona, Matt Moscona, Alicia Miller and Mark Mumford.
Preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Remona Maser; sister Doris Graves; daughter and son-in-law Linda and James McAdams; and grandson Paul Mumford.
A celebration of her life will take place on Monday, April 17th at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church, 1609 Carrollton Ave., Metairie, LA. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 Noon. Private burial will take place at a later date.
