Peter Joseph Pizzo, Jr., beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 87 years of age. He was born in New Orleans on June 26, 1930. He graduated from New Orleans Academy and Tulane University where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard in both New Orleans and California. He began his career with Texas Transport and Terminal Company as Vice President of the Latin American Division. He then served as Vice President of Administration for Century Graphics Corporation. He was a devout Catholic and longtime parishioner at St. Francis Xavier Church where he served as Parish Council President and numerous years on the finance committee. He had a special devotion to the Sister Servants of Mary and served on the National Advisory Board. He was a lifelong tennis player and met many friends from around the world through the sport. He received an honorary diploma from Louise S. McGehee School after attending 27 consecutive father-daughter luncheons. He never met a stranger and was a prolific storyteller. He will be sorely missed by many far and wide but especially his wife, children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Grace Quaglino Pizzo, his father, Peter Joseph Pizzo, Sr. and his sister, Gilda Grace (GiGi) Pizzo Graham. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Bartow Bridges Pizzo; his four children Ann Clayton Chamberlain (John), Page Castle (Ed) of Kensington, MD, Peter Joseph Pizzo, III (Maria) of Atlanta, GA and Sarah Pizzo Maholchic (Adrian) of Arlington, VA; and his eight grandchildren Pierson Hughes Castle, Clayton Johnston Castle, William Reilly Castle, Joseph Dickson Bridges Chamberlain, Nicole Ann Pizzo, Peter Joseph Pizzo, IV, Victoria Amelie Pizzo and Andrew Oscar Pizzo. He is also survived by his brother, Cmdr. (Ret.) Philip Jerry Pizzo, Sr. (Abigail) and many adoring nieces, nephews and godchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sister Servants of Mary 5001 Perlita Street, New Orleans, LA 70122. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church 444 Metairie Road, Metairie, LA 70005 on Wednesday April 11, 2018 at 11:00 am. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am until service time. Burial will follow for family at Metairie Cemetery, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans.
