Paul Richard Falter, age 90, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, April 19. Devoted husband for 61 years of the late Doris Falter, he was born in Columbus, OH in 1926 to the late Henry and Alice Falter. He began his World War II service in the U.S. Navy the day after his graduation from Aquinas High School in June of 1944, serving in the Pacific Theatre for two years. Upon completion of his military service, he enrolled at The Ohio State University, graduating in 1950 with a major in accounting. Paul began his career in retailing at F&R Lazarus & Company department store in Columbus, working there until accepting a position with D.H. Holmes in 1965, where he stayed until he retired in 1989 as a Senior Vice-President and Treasurer. He was a member of the Financial Executives Division of the National Retail Merchants Association (NRMA), now known as the National Retail Federation, and served as Chairman of that division in 1988. He was also the chair of the Frederick Atkins Controllers Advising Committee from 1977-1983. Paul was a member of Metairie Country Club for many years, and he served on their Finance Committee as well as several golf-related committees. He was a member of the Cosmopolitan Club of New Orleans for many years and was its president in 1988-89, and a parishioner for 52 years at St. Pius X Church. Paul was a devoted fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes football team, an avid golfer, and he enjoyed spending time at the race track, playing craps at the casinos, and fishing, especially on Little Platte Lake in Michigan. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings Marianne Taylor, William Falter, Virginia Linkous, and Nancy Jones. Loving father of Sue Falter Mennino (Jim), Paul R. “Rick” Falter, Jr. (Pam), and James M. “Jimmy” Falter; grandfather of Theresa Stein (Ritchie), Rebecca Mullen (John), Jason Mennino (Tonya), Maggie Falter (Derrick Burmaster), Paul R. “Pauly” Falter III, Molly Currie (Travis), and Timmy Falter (Leilan); great-grandfather of Michael Pepper (Stephanie Weir), Matthew Mullen, Andrew Stein, Stefan Mennino, Jack Falter, Julia Stein, Chloe Falter, Louis Currie, Alexis Mennino, Richard Currie, and Teddy Falter; and great-great-grandfather of Ian Pepper. He is also survived by his sister, Martha Dutko (Walter) of Columbus, OH, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., in New Orleans beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon. In lieu of flowers, Paul requested that donations be made to either the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org) or to Epilepsy Northwest (www.epilepsynw.org). The family would especially like to thank his compassionate caregivers at Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care New Orleans.
