Patrick John Egan

Patrick John Egan, beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and mentor died peacefully at home following a heroic battle with cancer on May 28th, 2022 at the age of 69. He was born to Veronica Mangan Egan and Joseph John Egan in Brooklyn, NY on June 2nd, 1952. He moved to New Orleans in 1960 when both of his parents became professors at Loyola University. He attended Christian Brothers School and then graduated from Saint John Vienney Prep in 1970. He was captain of the basketball team coached by legendary New Orleans coach Kevin Trower. He attended Loyola University pursuing a major in education and left in 1970 to pursue a career as a real estate appraiser. He first worked for Max J. Derbes and shortly thereafter joined who would become his business partner of 50 years Robert W. Merrick. In 1986, the duo purchased Latter & Blum, and on May 19, 2022 they celebrated 50 years of working together. Patrick was Executive Vice President of Latter & Blum and served as the director of its appraisal/ consulting division. His valuation expertise was widely sought after and brought him to more than 30 states and 12 countries in Europe and South America. He was widely regarded as the area’s foremost expert on hotel valuation and development, having analyzed literally hundreds of local and regional hotels. He was a member of the American Society of Real Estate Counselors and was qualified as an expert in nine different jurisdictions.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 34 years Cecile Caboche Egan, his daughter Emily Egan Webster (Andrew) of Houston, Texas and John Merrick Egan (Sara Fay) of Dallas, Texas. He also leaves four grandchildren Ellie Webster, Claiborne Webster, Grace Egan, and Walker Egan. Also, his mother-in-law Cecile Herfarth and brother-in-law Rouen Caboche (Janet). He was also survived by his former spouse and great friends Patricia and Vernon Brinson. Patrick was the third eldest of nine brothers and sisters and leaves behind Veronica Donato (Tony), Peter Egan (Debbie), Mary Byars, Michael Egan (Lucille), Ni’Aodagain (Teresa), Regina Capella (Jack), Chris Egan (Sondra), and John Egan (Elizabeth). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Patrick and Ceil led a beautiful life together which included antiquing trips to Europe and special visits to Normandy, France and Vienna, Austria. They also loved deep sea fishing trips off the coast of Mississippi and Florida, a shared passion for French cooking and a love of their dogs. He adored the coast and some of his favorite memories were with his family at their home in Pass Christian, Mississippi as well as at the Southern Yacht Club. He loved visiting his children and grandchildren in Houston and Dallas and was affectionately known as “Papa”.

The family would like to give special thanks to lifelong family friend and doctor, W. Brooks Emory M.D., Robert W. Merrick, Cathy Stevens, and Michael Valentino. The family would also like to give special recognition to the ICU, Radiology, and Oncology departments of Ochsner Hospital. Thank you to the numerous family and friends for your support.

A Memorial Service will be held on what would have been Patrick’s 70th birthday, Thursday June 2nd at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home with visitation from 9am to 11am followed by a Mass at 11am. A private inurnment will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you consider a donation to the Ochsner Cancer Center or the Autoimmune Encephalitis Alliance at aealliance.org.
