Patricia (Patsy) Friedler Kanter, age 71, passed away peacefully April 28, 2021 after a well fought illness. She was born September 19, 1949 in New Orleans, LA to Louise and Nat Friedler. She married David Kanter of San Antonio, TX who preceded her in death in 2008.
Patsy lived big and loved hard and it was evident in every corner of her life.
Her generous heart is best witnessed through her love of her family and friends. She was a fierce advocate for those she knew and loved and would stop at nothing for them. Patsy embraced life head on and loved nothing more than a chance to celebrate it. Her elaborate parties were pure joy, and to be there in her presence is a cherished memory for many.
She dedicated her life to teaching, including her own children and grandchildren and the many whose lives she touched with math. Patsy owned and successfully grew her own company, PFK consultants. She developed a calendar math program, Every Day Counts, which allowed her to travel the country and share her wisdom about teaching children math. Her love of math was infectious and lives on through the many books she authored. Patsy truly made Every Day Count.
The sum total is a life lived to its fullest. We will dearly miss our biggest cheerleader and trust she will continue to cheer for us all from the balcony.
Patsy is survived by her son Nathan and his wife Carrie and daughter Julie and her husband Todd and her grandchildren, Sam and Meredith, who affectionately knew her as Heart, her brother and wife, Jerry and Marilyn Friedler, and sister and husband Ann and Robert Eisen. She certainly loves them with all her heart.
We plan to celebrate her life together later this year. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Camp Thunderbird Charitable Foundation, 802 De Mun Ave., St. Louis, MO 63105; www.camptbird.com as Patsy felt every child should have the opportunity to attend summer camp or the Jewish Community Center of New Orleans at www.nojcc.org.
Graveside services were held at Hebrew Rest Cemetery II in New Orleans on Thursday, April 29, 2012 with Rabbi Katie Bauman officiating. Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be made online at www.lakelawnmetairie.com.
