Never forget our last meeting. My brother, Willie, Retired NOPD Detective Charlie Miller & I, picked up Nick from the nursing home where he was living. We took him to the Quarterview Restaurant on Clearview Parkway, Metairie, for the annual luncheon for old cops to gather. That was January 2016, MLK Day.  We used to call that event the Annual MLK Lunch. Nick rode with me in my car because we could not get him into the higher level SUV. Nick was thrilled. He loved the ride (getting out of the home) & thoroughly enjoyed the lunch and the chance to talk with so many old friends. Likely Nick's most enjoyable day in a long time. Then, Nick passed away shortly after the big luncheon, on April 4th 2016. Now we call that annual event, The Nick Macheca Luncheon. We toast you Nick & pray that you have reached the Promise Land & Rest In Peace forever. Amen.

Can't top you Chuck and Pam my Great Uncle Nick was a jolly ole' soul.  I recall him whistling a old Frank Sinatra tunes and such. He loved life, his family, and telling stories too.  No doubt he fulfilled his bucket list.  Oh yeah and the dinners at Bozos and Mr. Tony Angelo's out of this world. I also had the pleasure of meeting some movie stars. He loved walking with the Pete fountain (outfit) as he would have said it.  He taught me many of valuable lessons. I just know you are whistling with the angels high in the sky. May you rest in peace.

I MET NICK IN THE MID  1960'S AS A MEMBER OF NOPD.
I LAST SPOKE WITH  HIM A FEW MONTHS AGO.
OUR RELATIONSHIP SPANS RIGHT AT 50 YEARS.

NICK HAS AND STILL DOES MAKE A PROFOUND IMPRESSION UPON ME.
I ALWAYS HAVE AND WILL CONTINUE TO LOOK UP TO HIM AS A TRUE FRIEND AND A BROTHER OFFICER .

I HAD THE HONOR TO WORK WITH HIM IN THE DETECTIVE BUREAU OF NOPD AND LATER AT JPSO.

MY FONDEST MEMORY  OF NICK WAS BEING ASSIGNED TO PET'S WALKING GROUP ON MARDI GRAS DAY.
THE END OF THE STORY IS _"THEY FINALLY MADE IT TO TE FINISH LINE".

AND THEN THERE WAS THE STORY OF BOBBY B AND THE BURGLARY ON THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING.  NICK MADE THE FRON PAGE ON THAT ONE, IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY.

NICK ALWAYS TOOK THE TIME TO TEACH ME BCAUSE HE CARED.  I STILL PASS ON THE WISDOM HE CONVEYED TO ME IN MY LECTURES FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT.  THEY HAVE SURVIVED  THE TEST OF TIME.
I PRAYED A LOT OF PRAYERS OF PETITION  FOR NICK WHILE HE WAS WITH US.  MY PRAYERS OF THANKSGIVING NOW IS  IN KNOWING AND ACCEPTING  THAT HE IS WITH OUR SAVIOR FOR ETERNITY.  HE IS AT PEACE FOR EVER MORE!

I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER NICK AND WILL KEEP TELLING HIS STORIE AND I LOOK FORWARD TO REUNITING WITH HIM IN THAT PLACE MADE FOR ALL OF US BY THE FATHER.  FOR IT  IS WRITTEN "COME TO ME ALL OF YOU THAT AE WEARY AND ARE BURDENED AND I WILL GIVE YOUR REST".

Macheca family, I am sorry to hear Nick has passed on.  My prayers and sympathy are with you all. I know how special Nick was to all of you.

God Bless you my friend, so long are the friends that you've had over the years both with NOPD and JPSO, you were a great guy and will be sadley missed,

They don't get any better. More like a father than an uncle, more like a grandfather than a great-uncle. 

One of the better men, cops, and story-tellers you will ever have met. No doubt "Uncle Nicky" is with Jesus telling Him one of his stories for the 5th time already.

It is tough when you lose a long time co-worker, but even worse when that person is a close friend. So many great memories, traveling to  LSU Tiger football games, great meals at Bozo's and Tony Angello's and when working always knew he was someone you could count on.
