Nancy grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she attended the University of Michigan. It was while a student at the University of Michigan that she met her husband, anthropologist Malcolm C. Webb. The couple moved to New Orleans in 1963. After graduating from the University of New Orleans with a B.A. in English, Nancy worked for several decades at Delgado Community College, where she was a great favorite of many students.
She was a classically trained flautist who for thirty years was first flute in the New Orleans Civic Symphony. A devout Christian, Nancy was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church. She especially loved attending mass at the Church (later Chapel) of the Holy Comforter, where she sang in the choir for many years.
Nancy enjoyed cooking, baroque music, puzzles, and mystery novels. From her earliest years she was a great lover of animals, particularly dogs, cats, horses, and birds. Nancy was a lively, fun, sensitive and generous person with a great sense of humor and a unique gift for connecting with those around her.
Nancy Webb entered into eternal rest on December 17, 2023. She is survived by her sons Michael, Peter, and Joel, daughters-in-law Siriwan and Patty, and her granddaughters Jennifer and Joanna.
The family of Nancy Webb would like to thank all of her doctors and nurses at University Medical Center and the staff of St. Margaret’s at Mercy for their care and kindness towards her in the last year.
A funeral service for Nancy Webb will be held at the Chapel of the Holy Comforter, 2220 Lakeshore Drive, New Orleans, LA 70122, on Wednesday, January 3rd at 1:00 PM, following visitation beginning at 11:00 AM.
