Nancy Jane Scarnato passed away peacefully on Friday, March 10, 2023, at the age of 89.
After her childhood in Hopedale, Massachusetts, Nancy graduated from Boston University in 1955 and pursued her lifelong passion as an elementary school teacher. Along with her husband, Dr. Samuel Scarnato, the Deputy Superintendent of New Orleans Public Schools, Nancy was actively involved in the city’s education system and became a founding member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Algiers.
Nancy was predeceased by her mother, Janet Sadler Pangborn, her husband, and her son, David Scarnato. She is survived by her loving daughters, Elizabeth Miller, Susan Wishlinski (Ramon), Juliann Fangue (David), and Joni Kobrock (Eric), as well as her daughter-in-law, Julia Scarnato. She is remembered fondly as “Grandma Nan” by her nineteen grandchildren.
