Before she was born, Mollie was washed in The Baths of Our Lady of Lourdes, France and was consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Mollie Barbara Helm, a precious gift from God, was given to Boyd and Barbara Helm on October 18th, 1985. She peacefully returned to Jesus and His Blessed Mother on Mother's Day, May 14th, 2023.
As a newborn, Mollie struggled with severe jaundice, but she was immediately cured when her mother put a drop of Lourdes water on her tongue. Mollie then grew into a beautiful, bright young lady who enjoyed running cross country and singing in the choir in high school. She graduated from Saint Joseph's Academy in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 2004. Over the last few years, she worked at the local humane society in South Carolina, and most recently as a Veterinary tech at Bluffton Veterinary Hospital in South Carolina, where she was passionate about her job.
Mollie had a loving and giving heart, first for God and family, and also for her friends, her beloved pet cats, as well as for every person and animal that she met. A South Carolina friend recently said, “Mollie would give you the shirt off her back.”
Mollie is survived by her mother, Barbara Mahoney Helm, RN and her father, Boyd Edward Helm, MD, and they grieve the loss of their gentle, loving youngest child.
Mollie is also survived by her siblings Shannon Helm Hanaki, PsyD (Bryan, MBA), Boyd Michael Helm, MD (Adrianne), Eric Edward Helm, JD (Bridget, her closest friend), and Brendan Patrick Helm, MBA; her nieces and nephews whom she loved so much, Madelyn Helm (her “BFF”), Liam Helm, Marie Helm (who held a special place in her heart), Weston Helm, Emmett Helm, Justin Hanaki, Emma Hanaki, Ashley Hanaki, Gillian Helm, Nataleigh Helm, and Elouise Helm.
Mollie is also survived by her “favorite” uncle, Michael James Helm, MD and his wife Patricia, and cousins Ryan Helm, MD and Lauren Helm Shepherd,LCSW. She is also survived by her Aunt Maureen Miller and cousins Brian and Brad Fratello.
Mollie is preceded to Heaven by her beloved grandmother, Helen Friloux Helm, and by her dear Great-Grandmother, Ella Prendiville Friloux.
Visitation will be at Lakelawn Funeral Home and Cemetery in Metairie , LA on Friday, May 26th, 2023. Visitation is from 10am – 11:30, followed by Rosary at 11:30, and Funeral Mass at noon with Bishop Emeritus Robert W. Muench presiding.
In lieu of flowers, Mollie would love Masses as a “spiritual bouquet”.
