Dr. Michael Saxon Fischer of Slidell, LA, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2015 after a brief illness. Michael was a graduate of Brother Martin High School and received a Doctorate Degree from LSU School of Medicine. He is survived by his wife, Anastasia (Hoerner); his two sons, Saxon and Soren; his mother, Rosary Brandt Fischer; his sister, Maria F. Chighizola (Jeff); his brother, Ricky Fischer (Tiffany); his nieces, Ashley Chighizola and Victoria Fischer; his nephews, Jeffery Chighizola, Jr., Ricky Fischer, Jr., and Freddie Silva; his uncles, Ray Brandt and Gene Fischer; his aunt Jessica Brandt; his God Mother, Lynn Maffei; and many cousins. His father, John J. Fischer, preceded him in death. To his friends Michael was known as “a gentle giant with a big heart”, he was also known for his brilliance, quick wit, his compassion for the needy and his concern for all. Michael was especially blessed to be comforted by the care and companionship of his life-long friends and physicians. The outpouring of love and kindness shown to his family by relatives, friends, patients and colleagues has been an amazing testament to how many people loved Michael. For this there are no words to adequately express gratitude. He will be deeply missed by his patients and his dear friends and family, but his legacy of love and joyful service to others will live on far beyond his lifetime. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 16, 2015 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA.
