Mayola Jefferson Osirio was born on September 5, 1933, in New Orleans , La to Mayola Elbert Jefferson and Emile Jefferson. She was educated in the Orleans Parish School System graduating from Booker T Washington, during the last winter commencement ceremony in 1952. Mayola was married to Joseph Osirio. Mayola was the proud mother of four sons, Michael, Marvin, Melvin and Myron and one daughter, Ona Osirio Maat..
Mayola gave her life to Christ in 1951 and was baptized at Divine Providence Baptist Church. She served faithfully as a Deaconess for forty-nine years. Mayola’s favorite was Psalms 23 Mayola later joined New Salem Baptist Church under the leadership of The Reverend Warren Jones, Jr., She served as a member of the Senior Choir, the Pastor’s Love Circle, and was a member of the Adult Women’s Sunday School Class. Mayola was a devoted and faithful member, always willing to help the church whenever and wherever she was needed.
Mayola was employed as a Dispatcher with the New Orleans Police Department. It was an experience that would have an immeasurable effect on her career and life. She retired in 1987. After her retirement, Mayola enjoyed her passions of sewing, cooking, and completing cross word puzzles.
On Sunday, November 6, 2022, Mayola was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She rests from labor, but her memory will forever live in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved her so well. “Servant of God, well done! Rest from thy love employ; the battle fought, the victor won, enter thy Master’s joy.”
Mayola was preceded in death by her parents Emile and Mayola Jefferson, her husband Joseph Osirio; two sons, Melvin and Myron Osirio; five brothers, Emile, Joe, Shack, Waldo, and Burnell Jefferson; Albert and Raymond Balls; four sisters, Pearl Jefferson, Lovenia Rush, Delores Reid, and Shirley Wright.
Mayola is survived by her children, Michael Littleton (Darleen), Marvin Osirio (Demetria); and Ona Osirio Maat; one sister, Florestine Hurst; grandchildren, Travis Littleton, Marquis and Marvis Osirio, Mitrell Osirio Miller (Andrew), Jitu Maat, Star Ava Osirio and Myron Joseph Osirio; great grandchildren, Andre Osirio, Ma’ Lai Osirio, Elijah Osirio and Iyana Osirio. A host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation held at New Salem Baptist Church, 1530 Alvar Street, New Orleans, La. 70117 on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. with Funeral Services beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
