On the evening of March 16th 2024, Matthew "Matt" Clayton Austin, passed away at the age of 27. Matthew was born on October 30th 1996, in his family’s hometown of Kenner, Louisiana, to his father, Howard C. Austin, Jr. and his mother, Denise N. Austin. Matthew is survived by his wife, Megan F. Austin, along with their two children, Colton C. Austin and Allison C. Austin. He is also survived by his parents, Howard C. Austin, Jr. and Denise N. Austin, along with his sisters, Emily L. Hines (Jonathan) and Olivia S. Austin, and his two adored dogs, Maple and Tilly.
Matthew was an extremely smart and talented young man. He spent his younger years as an excelling student in academics and talented art. After high school, Matthew spent two years working toward earning a degree at Mississippi State University. Matthew soon after enlisted with the Navy, where he spent six years active duty protecting and serving his country as a corpsman.
Matthew lived as a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and friend to many, from his school years at John Curtis Christian High School in Louisiana, to his fellow Navy shipmates and sailors in Florida. Witty, clever, sweet, and humble, are a few words to describe the impressive young man Matt grew up to be. Matthew will always be remembered as a respectful, soft spoken, loving, and generous young man. Words cannot express how much he will be missed and never forgotten.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 12:00PM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:00AM. The interment will follow the chapel service in Metairie Cemetery.
