Mary Alice Quinn died peacefully in her residence on Saturday, March 25th, 2023. She lived in various cities throughout the south. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, she then moved to Mobile, Alabama, then to Birmingham and back to New Orleans, and then Nashville, Tennessee. After moving to Nashville, she finally settled in Memphis, Tennessee. Miss Quinn was a graduate of Vanderbilt University in Nashville. In college she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and upon graduation she went to work as a summer intern at the Commercial Appeal newspaper. She then worked for the Commercial Appeal for her entire career and retired as Assistant Managing Editor. In her latter years her attention was focused on the development of a Neighbor’s section in the newspaper.
Her interests centered around friends, family, and travel. When asked if she collected anything she stopped, thought, and replied “friends”. She has kept these as cherished lifelong friends. She always felt great appreciation for loving friendships.
Preceded in death by her parents, Margaret Alice Rourke and Yancy M. Quinn, she is survived by her cousins, their spouses, children, and grandchildren. Her final resting place will be in New Orleans with her parents.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Louis Catholic Church, 203 South White Station Road, Memphis, Tennessee on Saturday, April 15th, 2023. Visitation will be at 9:15 am followed by a Service at 10:00 am.
