Mary Christine DiCicco Mentz blessed her parents, Anthony and Laura DiCicco, as a Christmas present on December 25, 1928. Mary along with her sisters, Catherine and Antoinette, grew up in downtown New Orleans. After World War II, Mary was introduced to the love of her life, Henry Mentz. Together Mary and Henry, who were married for 63 years, embarked on a long adventurous life raising three sons. Through year-round sports, band performances, travels and family events there was never a dull moment. Mary's love for her husband and children was her priority in life. No sacrifice was too large when it came to her family. The sharing of wisdom and recipes passed to her daughters-in-law and grandchildren are moments that will be cherished and preserved for future generations. Mary was the consummate Italian matriarch. She always had time to help you with your problems, fill your plate full of her Italian cooking, babysit her grandchildren and help her husband with their seasonal decorations.
Mary left us to be with her heavenly family on December 29, 2021.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony Urbano DiCicco and Laura Cavaretta DiCicco; her husband, Henry Mentz Sr; and her sister Catherine DiCicco Esposito.
She is survived by her sons, Henry "Hank" Mentz, Jr. (Brigitte); Michael Mentz, Sr. (Wendy); Stephen Mentz (Kathy); sister, Antoinette DiCicco Sloan; grandchildren, Chad Mentz, Jill Mentz Gaunt, Brittany Mentz Hull, Adam Dantin, Bridgette Mentz Coyne, Brandon Dantin, Michael Mentz, Jr, Jared Mentz, Macy Mentz and 14 great grandchildren.
The Mentz family would like to express their gratitude to Catherine Ann, Stacey, Ashley and Megan who took wonderful care of her while she was at home. Further, special thanks and appreciation to all the caretakers at Serenity Senior Residence and Notre Dame Hospice, especially Deborah and Mimi. All of her caretakers treated her with love, respect and as if she were a member of their own family.
Due to Covid concerns, the family will be privately laying her to rest in Metairie Cemetery on January 6, 2022.
