Mary Ellen Kieffer

Mary Ellen Kieffer passed away on September 4, 2019 at age 82. She was born in New Orleans on June 4, 1937 to the late Philip and Edith Kieffer. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Dorothy Coombs, Alcee Kieffer, Shirley Laigast, Mavis Cerniglia, Farrell Kieffer and Gerald Kieffer.

Mary Ellen is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great great-nephews. Especially devoted to her care were her nieces Donna Cerniglia Martin (Trevor) and Gina Cerniglia Kanzig (Eric).

Mary Ellen attended St. Louis Cathedral Elementary School and later graduated high school from Academy of Holy Angels. As an adult, she worked as a Supervisor for Traveler’s Insurance. Mary Ellen loved the Saints, playing cards & scrabble, but her favorite past-time was bowling. She was an active member of the Kenner Senior Bowling League prior to her illness.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Metairie Healthcare and Compassus Hospice for their attentiveness to Mary Ellen. The family is greatly appreciative of the care provided by Pat Sharpe, RN and a special thank you to a devoted friend, Tess Paliaro, who visited and cared for her daily.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, on Friday, September 13, 2019 at 2pm. Public visitation will begin at 1pm and the interment will be private.
