Mary Bailey was born to loving parents, Hugh and Florence Sarahan, on August 16 in Baraboo, Wisconsin. She passed away on January 11, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was born and raised in Wisconsin with her brother, Charles Sarahan. At the age of eighteen, she visited New Orleans with her best friend, Helen. It just happened to be Mardi Gras. She returned to the city a few months later. New Orleans became and remained her home for the majority of her life. Here she made a lifetime of memories, met her husband, Jim Bailey, and raised her four children. Mary spent 25 years raising her four children, while employed as a legal secretary. She was very proud of her ability to provide her children with a Catholic education and college degrees. When her children finished their educations, she returned to school and found a passion for realty. She became a realtor and worked with Latter & Blum for 25 years. Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, James T. Bailey, II. She will be missed dearly by her four children, Cheryl Bailey Bishop Boyd (Rich), J.T. Bailey, III (Carol), Michele Bailey, and Denise Bailey Scanlon (Patrick); her six grandchildren, Ryan Bishop, Adam Bailey, Scott Bishop, Meredith Bailey Runager (Justin), Lauren Traina, and Evan Bailey; and her two great-grandchildren Addison Runager and Mason Bishop. Mary also leaves behind her faithful dog, Peja.
We will celebrate Mary's life on January 17, 2018, beginning with visitation in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. at 1:00 PM, to be followed by a Catholic mass at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery. A small reception will take place after services.
