Martin A. Belanger, M.D., age 87, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bonnie, and his two children, Monica and Martin, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mae and Felix Belanger, and a brother, James, who died in infancy.
Martin received a BS degree in Pharmacy from Loyola University and worked three years as a pharmacist before enrolling in LSU Medical School. Following medical school, he completed a residency in radiology at Charity Hospital New Orleans. He was board certified in diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine.
Martin was Director of Radiology at F. Edward Hebert Hospital, Jo Ellen Smith Hospital, Meadowcrest Hospital, and St. Jude Medical Center. He was also Director of Radiology at St. Charles Parish Hospital, where he served as Chief of the Medical Staff. He was selected by National Medical Enterprises to serve on its national advisory board, and was a member of the American College of Radiology, Radiological Society of North America, and the Society of Nuclear Medicine. He was also a member and past president of the Radiological Society of Louisiana, the Tri-Parish Medical Society and the New Orleans Radiology Society.
Martin served on the Board of Directors of Christian Brothers School, and was a member of the Board of Regents of Catholic University. In recent years, he became a Catholic and a parishioner of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church. He also was a member of Babylon Carnival Club for many years, reigning as King Sargon in 1991.
Martin was a loving husband and father, who found great joy in his family. Family vacations were so important to him, whether they were at the beach or in the snow. He truly loved his family and received the same love in return. He was consistently cheerful, compassionate, kind and very witty. He will be greatly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 3101 Eton St. in New Orleans, on Monday, November 14, 2022 at 11:00AM. A visitation will be held at the church beginning at 10:00AM. The interment will follow the Mass at All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery.
