Mark Steven Shields., a loving brother, an avid sports fan and an athlete for most of his life, died on Thursday, August 27, 2024. He was 67. Mark was born and raised in New Orleans, La. He worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for many years before retirement. Previous to that Texaco Corp.
“He was a great brother and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for his family as he loved them all,” his family said in a tribute. “He loved socializing with his family and friends. many loved him for his compassionate ways and his caring heart. “If you were lucky enough to call him your friend, you knew you had a friend for life.”
He loved to watch his sports, especially the N.O. Saints and LSU Tigers. Win or lose they were still his favorite teams. An animal lover at heart, he will be joining his precious dog Bandit.
He believed in the Lord and sadly fought and suffered through Parkinson’s Disease for 12 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Capt. William T. Shields, Jr. and Rosita E. Shields. He is survived by his siblings David, (Myla) Cindi, Carolyn, Barry, Danny Shields, (Rachel) niece Juliet, nephews William Shields, Jacob Shields (Alison) and their children Stella, Zelie, Layne, and Wesley.
Graveside Services will be held at Metairie Cemetery in All Saints Mausoleum, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124 on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. Friends are invited to arrive at 9:30am.
