Margaret Ann Morgan Newman

Margaret Ann loved New Orleans. As matriarch of her family, she enjoyed hosting gatherings for special occasions that would bring her children and grandchildren from around the country back to New Orleans. She also loved to explore new places and traveled throughout the country and abroad with her husband. Once widowed, she continued the tradition with her lady friends, many of whom were childhood friends from Ursuline Academy.

Margaret Ann was known for her radiant smile, a genuine, hearty laugh, her kind and loving nature, and her generosity towards family and friends. She also loved dark chocolate, a good filet with a glass of Grey Goose on the rocks with a huge wedge of lemon, and fried chicken from High Hat on Tuesdays.

Margaret Ann was an avid reader and especially enjoyed novels set during World War II. She liked to do the daily Word Jumble in the newspaper each morning after her coffee and chocolate croissant. She found strength throughout her life in her Catholic faith and her church, The National Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor.

Margaret Ann is preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Robert Lee Newman, Jr., MD; parents, Alfred Harriman Morgan and Marguerite Hassinger Morgan; son, Morgan Edward Newman; and brother, Alfred Harriman Morgan, Jr.

She is survived by her daughters, Lise Ann Newman (Raymond Cekauskas) and Diane Hassinger Newman (Ketti Kollin); son, Robert Lee Newman, III (Lee Ann Newman); grandchildren; Alessa Cekauskas Anderson, Anya Cekauskas, Amelie Cekauskas, Wallis Newman, Johnny Newman, Alise Newman, Christine Newman and William Newman; great-grandson Axel William Anderson and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to the services on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124. The visitation begins at 12:00 PM until the funeral mass at 1:00 PM. The interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery, which is on the same grounds as the funeral home.
