Margaret Aucoin Lartigue, at the age of 80, died peacefully at home on August 5, 2023, gracefully losing her three-year battle with lung cancer. Margaret was a kind, generous woman who put all others’ needs before her own. She was the head majorette of Chalmette H.S. when she met her husband of 59 years, Clement W. Lartigue IV, on Valentine’s Night, 1958. C.W.’s memory of that meeting was jet black hair, milky white skin, and ruby red lips. It was love at first sight. He was always proud to have her at his side. She was his rock and his best friend.
Margaret won many awards and honors for her baton skills in high school. She marched through the streets of Havana in 1960, representing the United States. She won the American Legion Award in her senior year. She later earned a Degree in Design from Delgado Community College.
She was a gourmet cook, a gracious hostess, and a fine tennis player. She developed the first two-handed backhand at her club because she had to overcome a broken arm. She was an open, warm, and unpretentious woman. People would confide in her. Margaret seldom complained and was a wonderful travel companion. She would travel anywhere, anytime.
Margaret was an incurable romantic and had an artistic temperament. Her artistic bent would lead her to lavishly wrap a gift, while quite often forgetting to remove the price tag. Her indoor Christmas decorations were legendary. She had a way with orchids. Her friends would bring dying plants to her to save. The family cat always slept by her side, even to the end.
Margaret is survived by her two children, her pride and joy, Colleen and Jonathan (Courtney); her grandchildren, Nathan, Tyler, and Henri; her brothers, DePaul Aucoin and Donald Wesley Aucoin; sixteen nieces and nephews; and many grand nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Dewey Paul Aucoin and Opal Ringgold Aucoin, and brothers, J.T. White and Rene Alexis Aucoin.
