Generous, reliable, trusted, loyal, and loved are just a few adjectives to describe Lynda Ward Nakamoto. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, Lynda, 76, entered into eternal rest with her savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, on November 2, 2023.
Born in Boston, Lynda grew up in Brockton, MA where she graduated from Brockton High School and Barrington College in Rhode Island. Upon returning to Boston, she met her husband, Dr. Tetsuo Nakamoto, who immigrated to America from Japan. They married and moved to the New Orleans metro area in 1980, where they built a wonderful life together with their two sons, Andrew and Chris.
Over the course of a long career in Jefferson Parish schools, she devoted her life to her community by teaching elementary school children in the English as a Second Language Program. Years after her retirement, she found immense joy when former students would stop her to share what an impact she had on their lives.
Lynda loved learning about different cultures, traveling, and sampling fine foods and wine. She cherished her family more than anything and led a bustling social life with her dearest friends, especially her Alpha Delta Kappa teachers’ group.
Lynda leaves behind her devoted husband, Tetsuo Nakamoto, her sons, Andrew (Christina), Chris (Jamie), and five grandchildren, Owen, Miles, Lila, Max, and Mia. She also leaves behind her twin brother, Billy Ward and a number of nieces and nephews. She's preceded in death by her parents, Perley and Marguerite Ward, and her siblings, Shirley Adams, Isobel Boynton, and David Ward.
Our world is quite a bit dimmer from the loss of such an extraordinary human being. Although Lynda is no longer present, her legacy lives on with the positive impact on all the lives she touched that are still living. To celebrate her life and all that she accomplished, a visitation will be held at Lake Lawn Funeral Home in New Orleans on November 11, 2023 at 11am. A funeral mass will be held in the Chapel at 1pm and interment will follow.
