Louis Edouard Turner was called to be with our Lord on August 29, 2022 at the age of 83. A native of New Orleans and a resident Baton Rouge, LA preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Iris Sorina Turner, parents Louis Turner and Elizabeth Turner Settles; in-laws Edwin and Alfreda Sorina; sister Sandra Rhone and husband Archie Rhone, sister in-law Sylvia Webb; brother in-law Edwin Sorina. He is survived by his children Gabrielle Saul, Edward Turner, and Valerie Schexnayder. Loving grandfather “Papere” of Catharine Swain, Louis, Julian, Keila, and Joi Turner, Sebastian and Benjamin Schexnayder, and four great grand-children. Father in law of Herman Saul, Schuntel Turner, and Todd Schexnayder. Grandfather in law of Anteres Turner. Brother of Juliette Allen; brother in-law of Loyce Lennix, Ann and Alex Pate. He is also survived by his devoted friend Shelvy Hobbs and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a graduate of Loyola University. He honorably served as a LCpl. in the United States Marine Corps, and was very proud of his patriotic duty. He was an officer with the New Orleans Police Department for 25 years, serving as Deputy Superintendent at his retirement. After retiring from NOPD, he served as Director of Security for Canal Place and was a member of the team instrumental in completing the Riverfront Street Car line second phase. He also served as a consultant for the Sewerage and Water Board for 10 years. Additionally, he proudly served on the Board of Directors of the New Orleans Police Department Credit Union for over 30 years, serving 10 years as the Chairman. He loved to grill outdoors, especially on Sundays to entertain his family. He was a short-wave radio operator and had an amateur license which allowed him to communicate with individuals all over the world. During retirement, he enjoyed visiting the casinos and playing “words with friends”. He resided in New Orleans, LA until Hurricane Katrina where he was a parishioner of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. While living in Baton Rouge, he was a parishioner of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Noon on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd New Orleans, LA 70124. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at St. Louis Cemetery #3.
