Linda Knight Worley

Linda Knight Worley passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at the age of 87, surrounded by her loving family. Linda was born in New Albany, Indiana, before moving to Mobile, Alabama as a young child. She graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Education earning a 4.0 GPA in her major. Linda was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. At Alabama, she met her beloved husband, Robert Bruce Worley, to whom she was married for 67 years. Linda made Mobile her home, making life-long friends, especially her Bridge Club members and their husbands. She was involved in Mobile’s community, teaching Sunday School at Dauphine Way United Methodist Church and being active in Mobile’s Junior League, where she was named incoming president at the time her family moved to New Orleans 50 years ago. Linda became active in New Orleans civically, making many friends. She was the former president of the Christian Women’s Exchange, later to become the Hermann-Grima Gallier Historic Houses. Linda served on the board of St. Anna’s Residence. She was a former Lady of the Dumbarton House Board in Washington, DC, and was named to the organization’s National Roll of Honor. Linda was a member of the Junior League of New Orleans, and the Junior League Garden and Decorating Clubs. She was a member of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Louisiana, the National Society of Magna Charter Dames and Barons, and the Jamestown Society. She was an Elder and member of St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church. She was a once a licensed Louisiana real estate broker, and a member of the National Association of Realtors. Bridge was her favorite pastime, and she was working to attain her master’s level for proficiency. Linda was a gentle and kind soul to everyone she met. Most of all, Linda was devoted to her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Newland DePauw Knight and Virginia Voyles Knight, and her brother, Newland DePauw Knight, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Bruce, and their children, Rob Worley (Cassie), Dr. N. Knight Worley, and Virginia Worley Wirth (Adam); her brother, Sidney Knight; and her seven grandchildren, Dr. Nancy Worley Faux (Chris), Catherine Worley Clark (Christian), Olivia Worley, Gayson Worley, Eugenie Worley, Adam Duke Wirth, and Charlotte Wirth; and two great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service at St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church, 1545 State St. in New Orleans, on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at 12:00PM. The visitation will commence at 10:30AM. Linda will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama.
