Linda “Chick” Marie Louise Begg Lester passed away peacefully at home on April 19, 2022 at the age of 78, 3 days shy of her 79th birthday on April 22nd. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Brady and Glenwood Spurlock Begg, her brother, Robert Brady Begg and her former husband, David Brent Lester. She is survived by her children, Glenwood Lester Young, David Brent Lester II (Paula) and Brady Clay Lester (Lara). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ian Lester Young, Colin Brady Young, Duncan Statham Young, Nolan Randolph Young, Rowan Elise Lester, and David “Trey” Brent Lester III, her nephew, Robert Brady Begg, Jr. (Christine), her niece, Diane Begg Young (Dan), 4 great nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Linda was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She was a graduate of Mount Carmel Academy and Louisiana State University with a Bachelors of Fine Art. She painted under June Lampe’s loving guidance for over 40 years, becoming a part of her family. She also painted at Academy Gallery for many years. Linda was an amazing artist known for her portraiture, still lifes, and her Blue Cat paintings, named after a stray cat she called Harry that adopted her at her “divorce house”. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and loved her church family at The Center of Jesus the Lord. Linda loved talking about her trip to France and fondly spoke of her years of living in Hawaii. She also enjoyed researching her family’s genealogy with her beloved cousin, Jean McLoed. Linda also loved everything having to do with LSU. Special thanks to Carmela Ellis and Traditions Health Hospice for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dana Farber Jimmy Fund Cancer Institute.
Visitation for family is at 10:30am and for friends from 11:00am – 1:00pm on Friday, April, 29, 2022 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, New Orleans, LA, 70124, followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:00pm. Interment will follow. In keeping with celebrating her life, please feel free to wear yellow, her favorite color.
