Linda Schexnayder Carr, 67 died peacefully at home surrounded by family on June 3, 2018 after a courageous 5-year battle with ALS. She is preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Velma Schexnayder. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, John Edward Carr, Jr.; daughters Christy Carr Gernard (Ryan), Casey Carr Brechtel (Ryan Mullet), and John Edward Carr III (Courtney Talbot); grandchildren, Aiden and Allie Gernard, Charlotte Brechtel and Rhodes Mullet; brother and sister-in-law, James and Diana Schexnayder; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patricia and
Louis Hagood, and niece, Caroline Hagood; caregiver extraordinaire and “adopted” daughter, Quina “Q” Hebert Hawkins.
Linda was born on November 29, 1950 in New Orleans. She was a graduate of Archbishop Blenk High School and Louisiana State University with a B.S. in Home Economics. She began her career as a buyer for Maison Blanche and worked her way up to Senior VP of Operations. For more than a decade worked for Rose of New Orleans then finished her career with her husband at Carr Stone and Tile.
Linda will be remembered for her unyielding strength and ability to overcome life’s obstacles. Despite fighting breast cancer, then ALS, she never questioned the why; instead choosing to live with passion, purpose, and her amazing sense of humor—always wearing a smile. To Linda, family was everything. She will miss time spent with her grandkids (including Johnny’s dog, Blue), bi-weekly coffee with friends, spending weekends at the ballpark, and LSU sports.
The care Linda received at Methodist Hospital in Houston and the LSU ALS Clinic was exceptional. We are especially grateful to Dr. Stephen Kantrow, Home Instead Senior Care, Sisters Servants of Mary and Guardian Angels Hospice.
Visitation will be held at Lake Lawn Funeral Home on Friday, June 8, 2018 from 10 am to 12 noon with services to follow. Family and friends are welcome. We are so thankful for our friends at Team Gleason for all of their support during Linda’s journey and their gift to her of technological communication. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Team Gleason Foundation, PO Box 24493, New Orleans, LA 70184.
