Lester Allen Sanborn, 91, born January 5, 1925 in Algiers, Louisiana, and resident of Metairie since 1957, passed away August 24, 2016. Mr. Sanborn proudly served his country during World War II as a bomber mechanic in the US Army Air Corps. He retired from Freeport Sulphur Company with 38 years of faithful service. He was a kind and generous husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He enjoyed designing, building and flying model airplanes through most of his adult life with the Crescent City Radio Control Club. Along with Jerry Nelson he helped start the Air Ad advertising business. He took pride in maintaining his home and his automobiles, and taught his children and grandchildren to appreciate and care for their own things. Preceded in death by his parents, George Allen Sanborn and Edna Meriwether Sanborn, siblings Thelma, Lemuel, and Estelle, and his loving wife of 61 years Shirley Treadway Sanborn. Survivors include his son Ronald Sanborn; daughter and son-in-law Leslie Sanborn Kelly and William Kelly; son and daughter in-law Nathan Sanborn and Moira Faust Sanborn; grandchildren Kathleen, Michael, Erin, Daniel Kelly; grandchildren Joshua, Jessica and Jordan Sanborn; four great grandchildren and numerous friends. The family would like to thank the Chateau Living Center and EJ Hospital staff who so lovingly cared for our dad in the past few months. Their kindness helped more than they may know. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 12:00pm.
