Joseph Kevlin Lavigne, U.S. Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022 at the age of 93, surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of 52 years to the late Adele Fuller Lavigne, he was the proud father of four sons: Keith (Mary Ann), Barry (Julia), Richard (Ann), and Thomas (Angel). He was the grandfather of Nicole Sayyad (Irfan), Brian Lavigne (Cassie), Katie Rodriguez (Christian), Ben Lavigne, Lauren Dugas (Shannon), Abby Lavigne, Emily Lavigne, Laura Lavigne, Megan Wiesen (Matt), and Matthew Lavigne (Jordan). He was the great grandfather of Sofia, Mia, Aydin, Samuel, Lucy, Miles, Luke, Maggie, Joey, Rex, Rhett, and Maxwell.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ovide and Lydia (Bourque) Lavigne and his siblings, Merlin Lavigne and Janice Watkins. He is survived by his sister, Mary Lavigne Picou. He will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was a native of Ponchatoula, LA and a longtime resident of Harahan, LA. As a veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Lavigne served his country proudly in the Korean War, earning many medals and accolades, including the Purple Heart. He retired from Sears Roebuck and Co. after forty years of service. His roots in Catholicism ran deep; the spark was ignited early in life and his desire to attend daily mass never wavered. Joe became a parishioner of St. Rita of Cascia Parish in Harahan, where he was a Eucharist Minister and a recipient of the St. Louis Medallion. He was involved in many organizations, including St. Rita Knights of Columbus, Ushers, Dad’s Club, and Silver Trotters. Joe enjoyed family, golf, sports of all kinds, and playing cards with his buddies. He was always the life of the party.

Mass will be held at St. Rita of Cascia Catholic Church. 7100 Jefferson Hwy., Harahan, LA 70123 on Friday, January 21, 2022 at 1:00 p.m., immediately following a visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Joe’s final resting place will be in Lake Lawn Park.
