John Edward Porter passed away on February 7, 2019 at the age of 71. Mr. Porter was a native and lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church. He graduated from Christian Brothers School, Ridgewood Preparatory School and attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana. John proudly served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. He worked many years in the food and restaurant industry, most recently as a sales representative.
Preceded in death by his parents, Muriel Stumpf Porter and John Frederick Porter. He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Susan Kuntz Porter, his daughter Stephanie Porter Casey, son-in-law Christopher Casey, and two granddaughters, Porter and Elizabeth Casey, who he adored. John is also survived by his twin sisters, Patrice P. Levy (Patrick) and Pamela P. O'Keefe (Allan) along with an uncle, aunts, brothers and sisters-in-law, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and many, many dear friends. His greatest pleasures were spending time with his family and fishing trips with his friends.
The family would like to thank the doctors and ICU nurses and staff at East Jefferson General Hospital for providing exceptional care.
Visitation will be Friday, February 15, 2019 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Dennis Hayes at 11:00am. Interment will follow at St. Louis Cemetery III - 3421 Esplanade Avenue New Orleans, LA.
