John Morgan Pitcher passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family in the early morning hours of Thursday, September 1, 2022 at the age of 91. Johnny, as he is known by friends, was a native of New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 70 years. He was a loving father to his daughter Jane Pitcher Fountain, her husband Kevin C. Fountain, three granddaughters, Ella Victoria, Hillary Morgan, and Julia Christina Fountain. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and his loyal friend and neighbor, Fred Leavines. Johnny was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, the love of his life, Camille Anne Lambert, his son James Patrick Pitcher, his daughter Julie Ann Pitcher, his parents Emily Winkler Pitcher and Reuban Pitcher, 8 brothers and sisters, and his best friend and brother-in-law, Leroy Faucheaux. For over 40 years, Johnny worked as a controls operator at Honeywell through Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 60. After retiring, he dedicated himself to his three grand-daughters picking them up from St. Clement of Rome daily, becoming a familiar face at school events where he captivated the hearts of parents and students alike. At the age of 18 he joined the Army, serving on the front lines of the Korean War. He saw action in six major battles including the Battle of Mason where he earned a Bronze Star for bravery and a Purple Heart. Returning home, he found a new passion for life in a wide array of interests, mastering trades in plumbing, carpentry, and electric. He built his family their home which stood the test of time and housed countless family gatherings. He loved evenings at the lakefront, sports, hunting, fishing, crabbing and crawfishing… which all led to him becoming a darn good cook. But most of all, he loved taking care of his family. Johnny was a man of small stature but a giant among men, bursting with kindness and generosity of spirit. He was a great role model, was fun, supportive and could always make you laugh. Congenial and charming, he forged lifelong friendships with his amazing gift to connect with others. Johnny personified the word friend. True to his values he could always be relied upon to help whenever needed. A man of extraordinary strength, talent and enthusiasm, he touched many lives in both small and great ways. Humble in heart, he would tell you himself that he had led a quiet, incredible life. He was a man in perpetual motion always putting others first, catering to everyone’s needs before his own which earned him the nickname, “Johnny on the Spot.” If he were still with us today, we’re most confident the last thing you would hear him say would be, “Can I get you a drink?” We would like to express our deep appreciation to Dr. Gabriel Vargas, Jessica Reyes, Family Homecare, Lauren Roth and Marie Lotz for the personal and excellent care they provided. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral mass in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans at 12:00pm on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. Visitation 10AM-12PM followed by interment in Metairie Cemetery.
