John Frank Gibson, Jr, age 56, died Monday August 24, 2015 in New Orleans. He was born in Delhi, LA, on January 7, 1959 to John Frank Gibson and Margaret Gibson. He is an honor graduate of First Presbyterian Day School in Macon, GA, where he lettered in football, baseball, and track. He received a B.A. in History from Mississippi College in Clinton, MS, where he played varsity football and was chaplain of the team. He was elected to the Mississippi College Hall of Fame. He held a Master’s of Divinity and a Doctor of Theology from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. As a professor at the NOBTS, he loved teaching and serving other people, particularly with his spiritual gift of fixing cars. He will be forever remembered for his contagious laugh, ready-to-serve spirit, and unconditional loving nature. He married Christina Rogers, of Wichita Falls, TX in 1985, and lived in New Orleans and Mississippi, fervently pastoring churches and avidly supporting his children’s sports teams in a variety of roles. John is survived by his wife, their daughter Callie, and their son John (Trey). He is survived by his parents John F. and Margaret Gibson, his brother Baron (Susie) Gibson of Macon, GA, and his sister Gay (Joe) Pittman, of Huntsville, AL and several nieces and nephews. “Johnny” will be greatly missed by all of his extended family, friends, and students. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 28, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Leavell Chapel on the campus of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
