John (Jay) Calvin Davidson, Jr. passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Passages Hospice in New Orleans, La. at the age of 64. Jay was born to John Calvin Davidson, Sr. and Marie Gravois Davidson. By the age of 23 Jay graduated from Rummel High School, earned a Finance Degree from LSU and completed military service in the United States Air National Guard. Shortly afterwards, he contracted mental and physical illnesses which persisted for the remainder of his life - Jay ultimately succumbed to cancer. In spite of facing enormous adversity Jay managed to live and complete his life with meaning, grace and dignity with assistance from his parents who faithfully stood by his side. Jay possessed strong Christian faith/values and lived his life as such. He was a kindred spirit who served as a testament of love and humility to all who knew him well. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten. It should be noted that “Birdie” Davidson was Jay’s primary care giver during the later stages of his illness and selflessly facilitated his needs. The family is humbled by and most appreciative for her acts of love and kindness. Jay was preceded in death by parents John C. Davidson, Sr. and Marie Gravois Davidson. Survivors include brother “Zach” Davidson, sister-in-law Roberta Hellman Davidson, niece Shannon Davidson Smith, great nephew Benjamin Smith, nephew Adam Davidson and numerous other family members. Relatives and family friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home located at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery), on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM through 11:00 AM. Inurnment will be private. Memorial donations may be sent to Sister Servants of Mary, Ministers of the sick located at 5001 Perlita Street, NOLA 70122-1999.
