John Philip Christman, Jr. passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2012 at the age of 88. He was born on Dec. 20, 1923 in New Orleans, LA. He was the son of the late John Philip Christman, Sr. and the late Rose Ballatin Christman. He was the loving husband of the late Anna Mae Thiberville Christman, and the late Dolores Schick Donlan Christman. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Katherine Ernest, Ruth Foret Phelps, and Lorraine Flemming.
He was the devoted father of Jan Christman Hooks (Keith), Bonnie Christman Smith (Chris), John Philip Christman, III (MaryBeth Oliver), and Timothy Arthur Christman (Anna Borne).
He was the grandfather of Connie Hooks Smith, Keith Hooks, Jr. (Denny), Angele’ Hooks, Jennifer Christman , Kaila Christman, Timothy Christman, Jr., and Gabrielle Smith. He had 5 great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his sister Rosemary Norton and numerous nieces and nephews.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the U.S. Twiggs from 1942- 1946. He was a member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 16 and worked for Otis Elevator Company for 34 years. He was a member of numerous clubs and organizations in N.O. East where he lived until Katrina.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service at Grace Lutheran Church, 5800 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124 on Thursday, April 12, 2012. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., services at 12 noon with interment at Hope Mausoleum.In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Grace Lutheran Church.
